ETERNAL LIFE

pastor Vítězslav Kukla

Maybe you already have heard such an idea "eternal life" and you don't know what to imagine. Maybe the first thing that comes to your mind is "never ending life", but this is only human understanding and very limited view. Let's look what Jesus said personally about eternal life:

What is it?

John 17:3 "And this is life eternal, that they might know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom You have sent." This is Jesus' definition of eternal life. To acknowledge God and Jesus! Maybe it looks like a strange concept to you, why Jesus said, that eternal life is to know God and Him, Jesus. Because of different translations we don't always understand well and it is necessary to study a little bit deeper. The word used here means to get to know intimately. The same word is used when husband and wife are together for the first time at a Wedding Night. It describes the situation, when one gives freely himself to another and they merge in one. It's similar with God, it's the moment He enters your life and you give your life to Him, without any hindrances, excuses, willingly and with joy. You are no more separate beings, but you are one.

Why to receive it and live it?
Adam and Eve had eternal life before they first sinned. They had relationship with God that pointed to their unity. The outcome was that their life was overflowing with joy, peace, abundance and health. God had a plan for people to have an open and connected relationship with Him. Jesus says that God wants to renew this relationship with people. God wants us to live with Him forever, it means also after our death. He wants us to live our life after death with Him and not without Him. Because only with Him there is peace, love and joy. Without Him there is only suffering, pain and sorrow. God wants us to have wonderful lives after our death and even now. Just imagine - having such a relationship with God who knows everything, who can do all things and who is always ready to help you. He is always willing to empower you, comfort you, encourage you, heal you and provide for you. The most important thing is that you can experience His love and know God personally.

What hinders me?
It would be great to have it. But there is one thing that separates you from God in the same way as it separated Adam and Eve. It is sin. Every one of us sinned, and that's why we don't perceive God, we cannot have a wonderful relationship with Him and we cannot live lives He has planned for us. Thank God that Jesus came to take upon Himself the sin of every man, shame, poverty, diseases and judgment. Jesus took all of it upon Himself and when He hang on the cross, he called: "My God, my God, why You have forsaken Me?" (Matthew 27:46) In that moment Jesus was separated from God in the same way you are separated right now. He took upon Himself the separation, so that you could come to God and "know" Him again - personally and intimately.

How to receive it?
If you are longing for such a relationship, if you are longing for eternal life, with everything it includes, it is necessary to get rid of sin. God said, that He will not drive out anybody who comes to Him, and He provided a simple instruction. He sent Jesus and said, that everybody who would believe, that Jesus died on the cross for our, it means also for your, sins, and He was risen from death, such person will be saved. So all your sins will be wiped away, God will give you a new life, you will become new creation. God will begin to live in your heart and at last you will know Him and you will get to know Him better for all your life. "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." (John 3:16)

There is a simple prayer here. If you believe what you are saying, know that you just begin to live everlasting life. Pray it from your heart and out loud, for you to hear what you say and realize it fully.

"God, I know that I am a sinner, and that's why I ask You for forgiveness. In the same time I thank You, that You have sent Jesus to wipe out all my sins. I believe that Jesus took all my sins upon Himself, died and was risen from death. I receive my forgiveness and cleansing and I thank You for it. Right now I am free without sin, and I can live Your eternal life. Please teach me to live it, in the name of Jesus, amen."
